How to quit smoking


Ads of Nicorette are all over the place! Newspapers, Facebook... everywhere.

I personally think that its all in the mind and these methods by themselves can never be effective. I actually know a person who quit smoking but got addicted to gum!

Here are some tips on how to quit smoking:
  1. Get rid of all the cigarettes you have
    Yes, throw away/flush out that packet you have!
  2. Get into the "What me smoke? I think you are mistaken buddy!" state of mind
    You were not born with a cigarette in hand - there was a time in life when you were yet to smoke your first cigarette, a time when you used to look at people smoking cigarettes with abhorrence. Try to get into that state of mind - you never smoked in your life, you hate cigarettes and you can't stand the smoke.
  3. Keep away from people who smoke
    This might sound too radical but peer influence is one of the biggest reasons which makes people smoke! Its difficult to kick the butt if you are out on a coffee break with friends and even one person is smoking! Your friend might not be offering you a cigarette, heck he might even be discouraging you from smoking one - but then its difficult to see a person smoking and not feeling tempted to have that 'last' puff just that once!
  4. Keep away from people who smoke
    Yes thats important.
  5. Remember there's nothing called as the last puff!
  6. One cigarette a week does not count!
    Yes, you don't qualify for the 'I quit smoking' tag if you smoke just one cigarette a week!
    The only thing that serves as a measure is 'I haven't smoked even one puff for the last N months/years'
